Portions of the 5 freeway between the 170 and the Kern County line will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday as the California Department of Transportation undertakes a sign-replacement program, Caltrans announced.
Caltrans will close up to four lanes on the northbound I-5 from Paxton Street to Newhall Ranch Road, and up to three lanes southbound from Templin Highway to San Fernando Mission Boulevard.
Traffic Safety and Signs, Inc. is the contractor on this $2.5 million project. It began in June 2016 and is expected to be completed by summer of 2017.
According to a Caltrans news release, “Improvements will bring existing sign structures to current standards and increase operational safety. Construction signs and changeable message signs will be in place to alert motorists of closures.’’
