Holiday spirit was in the air for an event at Placerita Canyon this weekend as people created their own holiday wreaths, centerpieces and ornaments using an assortment of natural materials from the Nature Center on Sunday.
The event was the Placerita Canyon Nature Center Craft Fair.
“Some (first timers) will come in and they think ‘well it’s a craft fair’ so they’re expecting vendors selling things,” said Mari Carbajal, Chair of the Holiday Craft Show.
“They get so excited when they see what’s going on in there.”
When attendees arrive at the show, they are presented with the option of purchasing a wreath base or a log, then they can pick from a variety of crafts to decorate them with, including greenery, seeds and pods.
“It makes (families) happy and it brings them together,” Carbajal said about the show’s unique experience.
Hundreds turned out to the fair, which was held both Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
Joe Suffredini attended with his wife and two sons.
“It’s a great family activity and (my kids) get to be a little creative and a little goofy at the same time,” he said.
Joe’s son Trey, 12, decorated his wreath with leaves, berries and lavender.
“I just like being here with my family and getting to do wreaths with them,” he said.
Proceeds from the fair funded Placerita’s nature programs as well as animal care.
The Placerita Craft Show is held annually in the first weekend of December.
