The Canyon High girls varsity basketball team beat Corvallis High of Oregon, 42-20, on Tuesday in the second round of the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix.
Rachel Bowers led the Cowboys (8-4) with 12 points. Daisy Cardenas had 11 points. Gabriela Sanchez led Canyon with five rebounds. Canyon will play Desert Mountain (Scottsdale, Arizona) at 3 p.m. today for a spot a final.
Canyon beat Perry High of Gilbert, Arizona, 45-21 on Monday in the first round of the tournament.
Talia Taufaasau led Canyon with 13 points. Cardenas also had 10 points. Sanchez led canyon with five rebounds.
Varsity girls basketball
Saugus 49, Palmdale 38
Maryrose Elias was the leading scorer for the Centurions (4-4) with 21 points. Libbie Mcmahan also had seven points. Saugus is 2-0 so far in the Heritage Christian Tournament. The Centurions will play Grace Brethren of Simi Valley and Vaughn High of San Fernando on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, respectively, in the tournament.
Varsity boys basketball
Valencia 65, Kennedy 52
Playing in the San Fernando Valley Invitational, Zach Hawkins led Valencia with 20 points, while Jayden Trower followed with 16 points and eight rebounds. Dexter Akanno had 12 points and five assists, and Matt Justice had 10 points and three assists.
The Vikings will play Granada Hills on Wednesday at Kennedy High at 4 p.m.
Saugus 78, Granada Hills 72
Saugus’ Anthony McIntyre scored 20 points, while Zach Phipps followed with 19 points. Micah Tobon registered a double-double. The Centurions will play Kennedy at Kennedy in the San Fernando Valley Invitational Tournament on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
