It’s going to be a blustery weekend in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Strong winds and gusts are expected to hit the area Friday and Saturday, according to a wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Friday morning.

The high wind advisory will remain in effect until 10 p.m. Friday and the wind warning will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday.

Santa Ana winds are forecasted to bring winds of 25 to 40 miles per hour (mph) and gusts up to 60 mph Friday morning and evening. On Saturday, winds are forecasted to be between 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

“Winds should exceed 60 mph at times in the mountains and Santa Clarita Valley,” a report from the NWS said.

As of 8:44 a.m. Friday, NWS stated that its highest recorded wind thus far was at 42 mph through the Newhall Pass just before 8 a.m.

The high winds bring dangers of downed power lines and possible damage.

“The threat for downed trees will increase due to recent rains and moist soils,” a report from the NWS said. “Strong winds can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.”

Southern California Edison also reminded residents to watch for traffic signals that are out and to report downed wires to authorities.

Cold temperatures are also expected to accompany the wind, with highs in the mid-50s and lows in the 40s Friday, highs in the mid-60s and lows in the mid-40s Saturday, and highs in the upper-60s and lows in the 40s Sunday.

Winds are expected to drop to 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph Sunday.
