A suspected prowler who, in the dead of night, stole a lock box containing a key after trying to force his way into an occupied home in Valencia Summit is still at large.
“He is using a flashlight to look into our homes,” said the homeowner whose surveillance camera recorded the man’s image.
“My fear is that he will return to our neighborhood,” he said.
The intruder, who was captured on a home surveillance video camera, tried to break into at least two homes in the Valencia Summit neighborhood shortly after 2:30 a.m. Monday, according to one homeowner now publishing the suspect’s image in an effort to identify him.
Valencia Summit is a neighborhood north of McBean Parkway, east of Rockwell Canyon Road across from College of the Canyons and south of Valencia Boulevard.
The incident was reported to deputies of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the station said Wednesday.
“We have a report for this incident,” she said Wednesday. “The suspect was captured on the victim’s ring door video system. The suspect stole the lock box which contained a key.
“As far as I know, the suspect is still outstanding,” Miller said, adding she had no details about what the key accessed.
The homeowner alerted his neighbors about the incident through social media.
“At 2:38 a.m., on Monday, March 13th, a person tried to force open my front door,” he said. “This person then seems to have proceeded down the street, where he crossed over the paseo and attempted entry into yet another home.
“I have posted a video of this person,” the homeowner’s warning to neighbors reads. “His face is clearly in view and he has very distinguishing tattoos.
“If you know anything about him, please call the local sheriff’s (station) at 661-255-1121.”
Sheriff’s deputies received similar reports from other Valencia Summit residents about attempted break-ins Monday.

“He’s trying to gain access while people were home sleeping,” she wrote in an alert to neighbors posted on social media.
“Our home was one of them,” she wrote.
