West Ranch High boys tennis has positioned itself as the heavy favorite in Foothill League boys tennis.

But Valencia and Saugus highs are positioning themselves as contenders in their respective CIF-Southern Section playoff groupings.

Valencia knocked off the Centurions, 15-3, early last week and moved into the Division 2 ranks, released Monday.

The Vikings came in at No. 9.

Saugus held steady at No. 4 in Division 3, coming back strong Thursday with a 13-5 win over Hart.

Valencia beat Golden Valley 18-0 on Thursday.

The teams will meet again April 20 at Saugus.

West Ranch, though in first place in league, is unranked in a brutally tough Division 1 field.

Baseball

West Ranch (11-3 overall, 5-0 in the Foothill League) sat on the cusp of the Division 1 rankings last week, stuck in the “others” category.

This week, after a wild comeback win over Valencia, the Wildcats jumped up to No. 7.

Winners of 10 straight games, West Ranch is the only ranked Foothill League team. The Wildcats are currently 2-0 in the Ryan Lemmon Invitational Tournament.

In Division 7, Albert Einstein Academy is No. 6.

Softball

Valencia High opened Foothill League play with a resounding 10-0 win over Hart in five innings, ending the game on Kelia Paragas’ “walk-off” grand slam. The Vikings (10-5 overall, 1-0 in Foothill) remained at No. 6 in the Division 1 poll.
