To benefit local survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, Cherished High Desert will host A Night of Jazz, Comedy & Story on Friday, May 19th at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center.  The evening is sponsored in part by Antelope Valley Harley Davidson.

The event will feature the clean comedy of Don Friesen as seen on Showtime, and Comedy Unleashed.  The night opens with Grammy-award winner Scott Martin, leader of his own Latin Soul Jazz Band.

The organization will also share its Interactive Art Exhibit, A Walk In Her Shoes, recently on display at the Newport Beach Library to raise awareness about human trafficking.

A silent auction will feature four tickets to the opening night of LA Opera’s Carmen.  Cherished will also present an award to detectives from LA County’s Human Trafficking Bureau.  The evening will close with stories from survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation.

Cherished’s mission is to empower survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation to live healthy, flourishing lives, and to become productive community citizens. Cherished is 501(c)(3) located in Lancaster, and it serves Los Angeles County.

Cherished was founded in 2011 by Kate Wedell, a survivor turned liberator.  Kate moved to LA to pursue a music career.  Betrayed by a man she thought was her friend, Kate was sold in exchange for an eight-ball of cocaine.  Ten years later, Kate managed to escape, and she vowed to help others.

Cherished is a unique program.  It is one of only two such organizations in the nation providing a free residential program and job opportunities to survivors.

Tickets for A Night of Jazz, Comedy & Story are available for purchase from Cherished High Desert, www.cherishedhighdesert.com/gala or by calling 661-214-3020.  Tickets are also available at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center Box Office, 661-723-5950, Monday-Friday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
