Seven was a recurring number for the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night.
They broke a tie in the seventh inning to beat the Angels 2-1 for their seventh straight win, their longest winning streak of the season. Hart High grad Trevor Bauer allowed seven hits.
He also recorded six strikeouts in eight innings.
The win makes Bauer 4-0 in five career starts against the Angels. It’s his ninth win of the year.
Zach Britton (Baltimore Orioles, former Canyon High player)
Rumors have been swirling about where Britton could end up by Monday’s trade deadline.
The pitcher has had the injury bug this season and was placed on the disabled list two times due to forearm problems.
But he remains with the O’s for the moment. On Wednesday in a 5-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, he gave up two runs on three hits and struck out one batter in one inning to bring his ERA to 3.50.
Tommy Milone (New York Mets, Saugus High grad)
Milone was moved from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list on June 22 after a knee sprain refused to completely heal.
His last game was on May 21 against the Angels in which he threw for 1 1/3 innings. He yielded eight runs on seven hits and recorded three strikeouts.
Mike Montgomery (Chicago Cubs, Hart High grad)
Montgomery pitched the last 2 1/3 innings in an 8-3 win over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday, giving up one run on three hits and recorded five K’s. He owns a 3.83 ERA.
James Shields (Chicago White Sox, Hart High grad)
While Montgomery had an excellent game against the White Sox on Wednesday, Shields was on the wrong end of the game.
He allowed five runs (three earned) in four innings, while striking out four.
Shields is next expected to start in the series against the Blue Jays, which begins Monday.
Pat Valaika (Colorado Rockies, Hart High grad)
The spotlight was on Valaika on Sunday after he launched a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the sixth inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates, a game that would end in a 13-3 win for the Rockies.
He homered again the following night against the St. Louis Cardinals for another two RBIs in an 8-2 loss.
