The 61st Annual Mt. San Antonio College Relays got underway for high school track and field athletes on Friday, as some of the Foothill League’s best took flight at El Camino College in Torrance.

Kicking things off with the boys one-mile run, Evan Bates and Isaiah Seidman represented West Ranch while Ethan Danforth was the lone representative for Canyon.

Bates had the best finish out of the three runners, finishing with a time of four minutes and 17.16 seconds, nestling into third place in the event.

Danforth finished 10th in 4:20.64, beating out Redwood’s Bailey Darnell by less than a second.

After coming off a tough Arcadia Invitational, Seidman clocked a time of 4:22.09 for 13th place. The ninth through 13th-place finishers were separated by less than two seconds.

“Isaiah and Evan ran tonight, but it wasn’t very competitive,” said West Ranch head coach Sara Soltani. “Isaiah ran really hard at Arcadia so it was a really tough turnaround for him. It’s just a weird time of year.”

The heart of the action will ramp up today, as five of the six Foothill League teams will be competing.
