A man who got into a fight with his ex-girlfriend, allegedly snatched the cellphone from her hand as she tried to make a 911 call to report domestic violence, threw it and smashed it, was arrested on suspicion of damaging property, a felony.

The 22-year-old Palmdale man, who was described as a painter by arresting deputies of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, was arrested Friday at about 9:10 p.m.

“The victim and suspect were previously in a dating relationship,” said Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the SCV Sheriff’s Station.

“The suspect went to the victim’s residence and got angry when he was asked to leave,” she said.

“The victim told the suspect that she was going to call police. The suspect (then) grabbed the victim’s phone and threw it on the ground, smashing it,” Miller said.

Deputies arrested the suspect on suspicion of various charges, including vandalism and domestic violence.

He is scheduled to appear at the Santa Clarita Courthouse on May 30.
