Now that “Avengers: Endgame” has seemingly left most — if not all — of the people in the U.S. in awe, fans of the source material have the chance to grab some free comics on Saturday.

Yes, Santa Clarita Valley comic fans, rejoice — Free Comic Book Day is coming.

The annual event, which is observed during the first Saturday of May, was founded on the belief that there is a comic book out there for everyone, according to freecomicbookday.com.

“Major publishers — such as DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Dark Horse Comics, IDW Publishing, BOOM! Studios, Dynamite Entertainment and Image Comics — put out free comics for fans to enjoy,” the website reads.

Local comic book stores — Brave New World, Paper Hero’s Comics and Kimzar Kollectables — say they are expecting a busy day Saturday.

“Free Comic Book Day for us is a huge community event,” said Andy Liegl, owner of Brave New World. “It is our biggest event of the year… We expect over 1,000 unique people through the door that day.”

Aside from the free comics, which are predetermined books and not just any selection in the store, the locations will also have various activities throughout the day, such as raffles, cosplay contests and special attractions.

“We’re open to let people grab one of everything we have that’s free that day,” said Kirk Yeager, owner of Paper Hero’s Comics. “That’s the only difference between us and every other store (in SCV).”

Raz Simonian, owner of Kimzar Kollectables, says the store is expecting hundreds during the big day.

“We have families come in — not just everyday comic book collectors,” Simonian said. “They bring their wives and kids… to introduce them to the store.”

He said the most important aspect of the day — which the three owners described as their version of the Super Bowl, Black Friday or otherwise their busiest day of the year — is customer service, customer service and customer service.

Brave New World is located at 22722 Lyons Ave,; Kimzar Kollectables is located at 27737 Bouquet Canyon Road; and Paper Hero’s Comics is located at 26771 Bouquet Canyon Road.
