Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to a reported grand theft in Canyon Country Tuesday morning.

The call came in at approximately 10:15 a.m. at the Costco store located on the 18000 block of Via Princessa.

An unknown suspect is alleged to have stolen a laptop from the shelves at the store and then fled the scene, according to Shirley Miller, a spokeswoman for the SCV Sheriff’s Station.

California law defines the crime of grand theft as unlawfully taking someone else’s property when the property is valued at $950 or more.

The suspect had not yet been apprehended as of 3:30 p.m., according to Miller.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. However, a handful of sheriff’s deputies did respond to the call in order to file a report.
