Fire responders were sent to the Pitchess Detention Center Friday afternoon for at least four medical emergencies.

The incident was reported at 2:36 p.m. on The Old Road in Castaic, according to Fire Department spokesman Johnathan Matheny. Two ambulances were initially sent.

The nature of the medical emergencies was not immediately available. The jail has had a rash of medical emergencies and drug overdoses in recent months.

Alejandra Parra, a public information officer with the Sheriff’s Information Bureau, was unable to confirm whether the medical emergencies were related to drug use.

At approximately 3:19 p.m., an additional two more ambulances were dispatched to Pitchess, totaling the number of patients to four, according to Matheny.
