Santa Clarita Elks Lodge No. 2379 recently hosted a jam session featuring members of Guitars for Vets. Veterans Committee Chair Jeannette Fisher organized a dinner, offering complimentary meals to veterans. All tips collected throughout the weekend were donated to the nonprofit.
Guitars for Vets members, along with several Elks Lodge musicians, played classic tunes in the dining hall on Aug. 29 while members, veterans and guests enjoyed a hearty roast beef dinner, according to a news release from the Elks. Nearly 100 meals were served, including 26 complimentary plates for veterans.
Guitars for Vets is a local nonprofit that provides free guitar lessons to veterans. Upon completing the 10-week course, each participant receives a free guitar. Thanks to meal tips and donations collected during the jam session, the Elks raised $700 to support the program.
