Mulch fire breaks out in Newhall

A quarter-acre mulch fire, dubbed the “Knight Fire,” broke out on the 23000 block of Coltrane Avenue in Newhall Saturday afternoon, according to public information officer Jonathan Torres with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. 

Firefighters were dispatched at 2:37 p.m. and arrived on the scene at 2:51 p.m. The surrounding brush was not affected by the flames. Light winds of 5 to 10 mph out of the east were also present, according to Torres.  

There were no reports of any structures threatened or injuries reported. 

Forward progress was stopped at 3:53 p.m. 

The cause of the fire is unknown at the time of this story’s publication.
