An airplane crashed on Sunday evening in a field off The Old Road near Henry Mayo Drive, behind Magic Mountain in Valencia, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

According to Deputy Nicolas Marinelli of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, a call from the Los Angeles Police Department came in around 5:08 p.m. with information that Whiteman Airport in Pacoima had lost contact with an aircraft.

“An aircraft had lost engine power,” Marinelli said during a telephone interview. “We responded to the location. The Fire Department was already there, and none of the passengers were injured.”

Marinelli added that, just after 6 p.m., there was still an active investigation underway.

According to Sgt. Juan Murales of the SCV Sheriff’s Station, the plane was still sitting in the field Monday morning. He had no further information about why the plane went down.
