Valencia native Colton Herta has signed with the British-based HitechGP team and will compete in the 2026 FIA Formula 2 season.
Herta, who signed with the Cadillac Formula 1 team as a test driver in early September, is one step closer to joining one of the premier racing series in the world, Formula 1.
The decision comes after Herta spent the previous eight seasons racing for Andretti Global in the IndyCar series based in the United States.
During his stint in the IndyCar series, Herta won nine races and finished the 2025 season seventh in the standings with 372 points.
Herta’s first win in the competition came when the Valencia native became the youngest-ever IndyCar series race winner at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, in 2019, at 18 years and 359 days old.
Herta spoke about the decision to enter the F2 feeder championship on his social media page and described how exciting the news is.
“I think it’s gonna be an exciting new challenge for me,” he said. “A lot of learning to do, but it’s gonna be really cool.”
