A 49-year-old woman from Palmdale has been identified as the person killed in a three-vehicle crash on Sunday night on the northbound side of State Route 14 just south of Escondido Canyon Road, according to an official with the California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office.

At approximately 9:27 p.m., CHP officers responded to multiple calls in relation to a three-car crash, Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez said.

When officers arrived at the scene of the incident, they found a 49-year-old unresponsive female driver inside a green 2013 Ford Fiesta and began to perform life-saving measures, stated an incident report provided by Burgos-Lopez.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department took over cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures before they pronounced the woman deceased at the scene of the crash, the report added. The woman’s identity has yet to be released by the L.A. County Medical Examiner’s Office pending next of kin notification.

Preliminary information from the investigation indicated that the Fiesta was traveling in the No. 1 lane and a blue 2004 Lexus Rx330 “was driving directly behind the Fiesta” the report said. The driver of the Lexus was identified as a 21-year-old man from Palmdale, according to the report.

The Fiesta began to slow down due to traffic and the Lexus crashed into its rear end, the report stated. The Fiesta was propelled and crashed into the rear end of a black 2021 Hyundai Palisade driven by a 55-year-old woman from Granada Hills, it added.

The 21-year-old man was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and both passengers of the Hyundai were uninjured in the crash, the report stated. The 21-year-old’s condition was not known as the publication of this story.

“This tragic crash serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly lives can be lost on our roadways. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family during this difficult time,” Lt. Yochim, acting CHP Newhall-area commander, said in a news release. “We urge all drivers to stay alert, avoid distractions and make safe choices behind the wheel to prevent tragedies like this.”

The crash remains under investigation and anyone with information regarding the incident can call the CHP Newhall-area Office at 661-600-1600 and ask for Officer Blanco.
