The Santa Clarita Community College District governing board is scheduled to discuss two existing litigation cases in closed session and provide an update on the accreditation midterm report in open session during Wednesday’s meeting, according to the agenda.

Open session is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in the College of the Canyons University Center, room 301.

According to the agenda item, COC was last evaluated by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges and Western Association of Schools and Colleges in 2022.

The agency reviewed the college through a series of data to determine whether the educational institution continued to meet the ACCJC’s eligibility requirements, and COC earned a seven-year accreditation, the agenda stated.

The college’s next report, the Midterm Report, is due on March 15, but before that, the governing board will submit its final report that comes from extensive preparation, discussions, evidence collection, and collaboration with participatory governance groups, the agenda added.

The report aims to highlight recent institutional improvements and innovations and provide an update on institutional performance and student outcomes since the last comprehensive review, according to the agenda.

“The Midterm Report reflects the college’s ongoing commitment to excellence and continuous improvement, demonstrating alignment with ACCJC standards and policies,” the agenda reads. “The development of this Midterm Report was a comprehensive, collaborative effort involving students, faculty, staff, and administrators — more than 100 members of the college community contributed to its preparation.”

“The report has been thoroughly reviewed and vetted through the Academic Senate, Associated Student Government, Classified Senate, College of the Canyons Foundation board, and has been presented to the board of trustees,” the agenda item added. “This report serves as the foundation for the reaffirmation of College of the Canyons’ accreditation by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).”
