The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Arson and Explosives Detail responded to a Valencia home on Wednesday morning following a report of a possible explosive located in the backyard, according to a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station official.

Deputies responded to the 24000 block of Telegraph Hill Court in Valencia where it was reported there was a possible artillery round located in the backyard of a home, said Deputy Richard Farkas, a spokesman for the station. The call came in at about 10:15 a.m.

The person who reported the object is a real estate agent who was notified by one of the tenants about the suspicious object, Farkas said. The agent then contacted the station to notify deputies of the possible explosive.

The incident prompted the LASD’s Arson and Explosives Detail to respond to the scene to ascertain whether the object posed a threat and to safely remove it. After conducting their investigation, law enforcement officials deemed theobject safe and took it in their possession, Farkas added.

Information on where the artillery round came from was not immediately available.

Deputies with the SCV Sheriff’s Station closed off and evacuated the area as a precautionary measure, while the LASD Arson and Explosives Detail conducted their investigation.
