A man was shot to death and another is in critical condition following a shooting in Newhall late Halloween night, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

LASD Homicide Bureau detectives are investigating the shooting death that was reported at approximately 11:24 p.m. Friday on the 25000 block of De Wolfe Road, according to a Nixle alert distributed by the Sheriff’s Department.

One victim, described as a Black man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, described as a 27-year-old Hispanic man, was transported to a local hospital and listed in critical condition, according to an updated Nixle alert from the LASD.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel received a call reporting a medical emergency at that location at 11:14 p.m., according to the PulsePoint dispatch app. A battalion chief, an engine and three paramedic squads responded and were cleared from the scene in just under an hour.

Preliminary information in relation to the incident indicated that the shooting stemmed from a fight that took place at a Halloween party, according to the Nixle alert.

There were two male suspects who were last seen running away from the location in an unknown direction, the Nixle added, and the investigation is ongoing.

The location of the shooting is in the hilly areas of Newhall south of Lyons Avenue and a few blocks east of Wiley Canyon Road.

According to dispatch recordings available on the Citizen crime reporting app, the initial 911 call reported that two males, wearing all black, had been shot in the back yard of the location.
