News release

Modern swing band Phat Cat Swinger is scheduled to make its Santa Clarita debut at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center on the campus of College of the Canyons on Saturday night.

Phat Cat Swinger is not your granddad’s swing band: Half its members are in their 20s, and their arrangements are more reinventions than covers, said a news release from the group. Their sets also include a few originals arranged to swing.

Founder/leader Marco Palos and “American Idol” Season 6 runner-up Blake Lewis are co-lead singers who front the 11-member outfit, dubbed by fans as “Hollywood’s hottest little big band,” the release said.

“We take songs we have grown up with and loved and bring them into a new live show that’s very interactive,” Palos said in the release. “There are songs you might recognize, but we twist them around and bring a whole new level of creativity and excitement to them.”

“Always expect the unexpected with Phat Cat Swinger,” Lewis said in the release. “We’re super high-energy, lots of dancing, movement on stage, and lots of fun rhythms. Think of big bands from the past, amp that up 10 times, and you get Phat Cat Swinger.”

“It’s the energy they bring,” Will Murphy, the PAC’s manager of ticketing and patron services, said in the release. “They have a stage presence … you can really tell they love what they’re doing, and want you to love what you’re watching and hearing, too. That’s what really sets them apart from a lot of the other artists we’ve had here. They’re really engaging and exciting and fun.”

The Santa Clarita date is the final Southern California appearance of the year for the group, set to make its Las Vegas showroom debut in January.

Tickets ($30-$80) are available via the PAC box office at 661-362-5304 or online at pac.canyons.edu
