The 2025 all-league football selections for the Foothill League have been released, and Valencia’s Brady Bretthauer and Brian Bonner are the Co-Players of the Year for this season.

Co-Players of the Year:

  • Brady Bretthauer, senior, Valencia (QB).
  • Brian Bonner, senior, Valencia (RB).

Both Bonner and Brethauer have shared the leadership role at Valencia High School for a number of years, and in their time together have won three Foothill League titles and made multiple playoff appearances.

Last season, Bretthauer won the Player of the Year honor and this season, the senior quarterback threw for 1,842 yards and 24 touchdowns. But Bretthauer is more than just a quarterback with an arm and has shown the ability to use his legs throughout the year.

Bretthauer ran 564 yards on 82 carries this season and tallied 10 touchdowns on the ground to accumulate 2,435 total yards.

As for Bonner, the senior running back announced he has committed to the University of Washington prior to the season and ran through the Foothill League en route to his first player of the year selection.

Bonner ran for 13 touchdowns and exceeded the 1,000 rushing yards mark with four 100-yard-plus games this season on 113 carries.

Bonner has been a three-year varsity player for Valencia since his sophomore season and ran for 3,043 yards and 41 touchdowns during his time with the Vikings.

Offensive Player of the Year:

  • Jake Nuttall, senior, Saugus (QB).

It’s been a year to remember for quarterback Jake Nuttall as the senior is the record holder in career completions and passing yards, along with touchdowns in a game, at Saugus High School.

Nuttall led the Centurions to the team’s first appearance in the semifinals round in the playoffs since 2017 and has been the starter for Saugus for three seasons.

This season, Nuttall led the Foothill League in passing yards and touchdowns with 2,139 yards and 26 touchdowns in the regular season.

Throughout Nuttall’s time with Saugus, he tallied 6,400 passing yards and 53 touchdowns and ends his high school career as the league’s offensive player of the year.

Defensive Player of the Year:

  • Josh Whitson, senior, Hart (DL).

Josh Whitson led the Foothill League in sacks with 14.5 and recorded 18.5 tackles for loss throughout the season.

Whitson also was unstoppable for the Hart Hawks in the playoffs, as in the quarterfinals against Palm Springs, the senior defensive end recorded two sacks and forced a fumble in the loss.

The senior ends his Hart career with the Hawks as the defensive player of the year and was a key piece to the team’s first playoff win since 2019.
