West Ranch football will have a familiar face leading the team on the sidelines next season.
Sean O’Brien has been hired as the next head coach of the Wildcats after serving as the program’s frosh/sophomore team’s head coach during the 2025 season.
“We are thrilled to announce the hiring of our new head varsity football coach, Sean O’Brien. With his deep roots at West Ranch, we are confident that coach O’Brien is the right leader to guide our student-athletes and elevate our football program,” read a West Ranch statement sent to The Signal.
This will be O’Brien’s second stint as the head coach of the Wildcats as he held the position for four years from 2009 to 2012, compiled an 18-23 record and led the Wildcats to the team’s first-ever playoff appearance.
“Coach O’Brien brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the development and success of his players, both on and off the field. Coach O’Brien previously served as our head varsity coach from 2009-2012.”
O’Brien stepped down from the position at the end of the 2012 season but remained as a teacher on campus.
“We are excited to welcome him back as head coach and look forward to the positive impact he will have on our student-athletes.”
The hiring comes after former head coach TJ Yonkers resigned in November after the Wildcats finished the 2025 season with a 2-8 overall record and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season
O’Brien will be the Wildcats’ third head coach in three seasons.
