Two people suffered major injuries on the northbound side of Interstate 5 at Magic Mountain Parkway in an early-morning crash Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office.

A three-vehicle collision shut down the I-5 at approximately 1:04 a.m. following reports of a black SUV into the center median, said CHP Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez. When units arrived at the scene they found a black SUV and two semitrucks were involved in a crash.

One of the semitrucks became detached and two people trapped in the cab of the semi were injured and were transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in unknown condition, Burgos-Lopez added. Information on their age and gender was not immediately available at the time of this story’s publication. The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene to extricate the patients before they were transported.

Information on circumstances leading to the crash was not available but was under active investigation, and a SigAlert was issued at approximately 1:30 a.m. to clear the roadways. All lanes were reopened at 5 a.m., he added.

No arrests were made.
