News release

The Santa Clarita Artists Association is scheduled to host a live demonstration by renowned watercolor artist Fatemeh Kian at the organization’s Jan. 26 meeting.

Growing up in Tehran, Iran, Kian began her artistic pursuits with calligraphy at a young age, eventually earning the highest national certificate from the Society of Iranian Calligraphists.

At 23, a chance encounter led her to her first watercolor class, a transformative moment that would become her life’s passion.

“There is only one thing that brings me joy more than watercolor painting, and that is teaching watercolor to others who don’t know it,” Kian said in an SCAA news release.

Her students consistently report that the experience brings them inner peace and has changed their lives, the release said. Her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and she has developed a deep understanding of color theory and motif design, the release said.

Through this demo, Fatemeh looks forward to sharing her knowledge, techniques, and love for watercolor with fellow artists and enthusiasts. She also runs a YouTube channel called Simply Watercolor and teaches a Zoom painting class every Saturday morning.

The demo is to be held during the SCAA general meeting scheduled 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, in the Newhall Library Community Room, 24500 Main St., Newhall.
