The city of Santa Clarita Planning Commission confirmed it will not formally convene this month, as there are no projects ready for the five-member body to review, according to a city spokeswoman.

The commission met with the City Council and other city commissioners for a citywide budget study session Feb. 3, but it featured no hearings with respect to pending plans or projects.

“The Planning Commission meets as needed, based on when items are ready for review and presentation,” according to a text message Wednesday from Carrie Lujan, director of communications for the city of Santa Clarita.

At the end of every commission meeting, city Planning Manager Patrick Leclair gives a preview of what may come the following month. He anticipated the next formal meeting to happen in March, following the city’s study session on the budget, which also involved members of the Arts and the Parks and Recreation commissions.

In January, city officials gave two tours of projects they had anticipated might be ready the following month — a virtual tour of the Belcaro project in Sand Canyon, and Princessa Crossroads.

He said he anticipated the next meeting to be March 3, which would possibly talk about “whichever one gets ready to go first.”

The city’s municipal code calls for the body to convene at least two times each month: “Regular meetings of the Planning Commission shall be held on the first and third Tuesdays of each calendar month, at an hour set by the commission,” according to the code online, which also states meetings can be adjourned by public announcement.

However, going back more than two years, the commission has canceled every first-Tuesday meeting on the city’s online agenda site, including the one for March 3, essentially making it a monthly convention.
