The Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency is scheduled to host its third Urban Water Management Plan community workshop on Wednesday, giving SCV residents the chance to continue learning about the agency plan as it’s being updated.
The UWMP is a state-mandated document that helps water agencies forecast future water demands, plan for droughts and climate change and engage the public in water planning decisions, according to SCV Water’s website.
Urban water suppliers are required to submit UWMPs every five years; 2025 UWMPs are due to the California Department of Water Resources by July 1, 2026.
The Wednesday workshop is planned to include an overview of the SCV agency’s water supply portfolio, its Water Shortage Contingency Plan and how that plan plays a role in preparing for future water supply challenges, according to an SCV Water press statement.
“Participants will learn how the agency plans for water reliability under varying conditions and how these strategies support long-term sustainability and climate resilience,” according to the news release. “This interactive meeting is designed to inform the public, encourage discussion, and highlight how proactive planning supports responsible water management.”
SCV Water kicked off its series of UWMP workshops in September with an overview of the UWMP and its purposes. The second workshop, held in October, focused on the meaning of water supply reliability, why it’s important and how it’s impacted.
The next workshop, scheduled for April 1, is scheduled to focus on a review of a first draft of the updated UWMP. Two public hearings on that draft – with the final adoption of the UWMP scheduled for the second hearing – are slated for April 28 and June 9.
Wednesday’s workshop begins at 6 p.m. at the ESS Conference Room, located at 26521 Summit Circle in Santa Clarita. In-person attendees are asked to RSVP at bit.ly/4kvBTHb, or register to participate over Zoom at bit.ly/3Oj4rI0.
