The College of the Canyons governing board has scheduled a special meeting Monday afternoon to discuss the appointment of a candidate to the superintendent-president position.
The meeting is set to begin at 3 p.m., with closed session to follow. On the docket for Monday’s meeting is a closed-session discussion of the position appointment as well as a conference with a labor negotiator, the governing board president, and a college employee.
The special meeting follows an intense week for the college as the search for the new superintendent-president reaches a watershed moment.
The four finalists for the position were interviewed live for about an hour each at the college’s Performing Arts Center in front of an in-person and virtual audience Monday. Governing board members spent the next day in closed session meetings interviewing the four candidates.
Board members came out of closed session after about 11 hours and had nothing to report out of that session, but the next day’s special meeting, listed on the agenda on an “if needed” basis, was canceled.
The college hasn’t announced whether the board has picked the new superintendent-president, but if it has, the college will enter into contract negotiations with that candidate to hash out employment terms, including salary, contract length and expectations for when and how to report to the board.
The deadline for the announcement of the new superintendent-president is May 13, according to the college’s CEO search website.
Board members will convene at 3 p.m. at the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, Room 301 at Rockwell Canyon Road in Santa Clarita. To view the meeting virtually, the livestream can be found at canyonsonline.zoom.us/j/87490474609.
