A 52-year-old Sylmar man was arrested on suspicion of felony carjacking on the 27000 block of Riverchase Drive in Valencia in the early hours of Friday morning, according to officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The suspect was a passenger in an Uber when he allegedly attempted to carjack the driver, a man in his 60s, according to an email statement from Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the station.
A deputy patrolling the area observed the vehicle stopped in lanes of traffic and what appeared to be a disturbance, and upon making contact, the deputy learned that the suspect had attempted to take the victim’s vehicle while displaying a weapon, Miller’s statement said.
The man was taken into custody at the scene and arrested on suspicion of felony carjacking charges. He remains in custody with bail set at $100,000, the statement said.
