Plus, scores from around the Foothill League
After a 15-3 win over the Valencia Vikings on Tuesday, the Golden Valley Grizzlies have won seven straight games in a row and have finished the first half of Foothill League tennis play with a 5-1 record.
In the win over Valencia (5-6, 3-2), the Grizzlies (8-2, 5-1) swept all three rounds in singles play and went 9-0, with Rowan Andres leading Golden Valley.
Andres ended the day winning all three of his matchups by scores of 6-0, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles play, the Vikings scored their only three points of the day, with the first win for Valencia coming from the duo of Stephen Hernandez and Alexander Perrine.
Perrine and Hernandez defeated the Grizzlies’ Emaad Islam and Neil Agrawal, 6-2, in the first round.
In the second round of doubles play, the Vikings’ Logan Murray and Jason Lee won their matchup, 6-1, and in the third round, defeated the Grizzlies’ pairing of Brandon Schoeni and Nolan Soukup.
The Grizzlies finished doubles play with a 6-3 record and secured the overall win over the Vikings at Valencia High School.
With the win, the Grizzlies are 8-2 overall and play their next set of matches at home Thursday against the West Ranch Wildcats with their first serve set at 3 p.m.
The loss drops the Vikings to a 4-2 record in league play and they will look to bounce back on Tuesday against the Hawks at Hart High School, with first serve scheduled for 3 p.m.
After Tuesday’s games, here are scores from around the Foothill League:
West Ranch 13, Hart 5: Following a win over the Hart Hawks (2-5, 2-4), the West Ranch Wildcats (6-1, 6-0) finished the first half of the Foothill League season unbeaten with a 6-0 record.
The Wildcats featured their strongest showing in doubles play as West Ranch compiled a 7-2 record.
The Wildcats will look to build upon their momentum on Thursday with a matchup against the Grizzlies at Golden Valley High School.
The Hawks will look to bounce back against the Cowboys at Canyon High School on Thursday.
Both games are set to begin at 3 p.m.
Canyon 11, Castaic 7: The Canyon Cowboys (2-9, 1-5) secured their first Foothill League win of the season with a victory over the Coyotes (1-8, 0-5).
With the win, the Cowboys are 2-9 overall and will look to keep up the momentum against the Hart Hawks at home Thursday with the first set scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
The Coyotes will look to rebound on the road Thursday at Saugus High School against the Centurions with the first set to begin at 3 p.m.
