The boys’ volleyball season ended on Wednesday, and although the Foothill League title race was won by the Valencia Vikings earlier in the season, there were still playoff implications across the standings.
For teams that made the playoffs, the Southern Section will release the playoff pairings on Saturday at 10 a.m. that will feature when and where teams will play.
After Wednesday’s games, here are updates from around the Foothill League:
Saugus 3, Castaic 0: The Centurions (24-10, 9-3) ended the regular season in second place in the league standings after a win over the Coyotes (19-11, 5-7).
With the win, the Centurions end the year with a 9-3 record and will go into the CIF playoffs after securing an automatic qualifier.
Despite the loss for Castaic, the Coyotes clinched their bid into the postseason as the team finished in fourth place in the Foothill League and earned an automatic qualifier.
In an interview with The Signal, Castaic head coach David Chae credited the senior-led group to making history as the Coyotes are set to participate in the California Interscholastic Federation playoffs for the first time.
“This senior class has set the tone in so many ways for our program. They are the ones who put in the work when no one was watching, and they’ve officially set the tone for every generation of players that will follow,” Chae said. “I’m thrilled they get to finish their high school careers on the big stage.”
Canyon 3, Hart 2: The Cowboys (24-10, 8-4) secured a win over the Hart Hawks (9-15, 3-9) on the final day of the regular season and ended the season in third place in the Foothill League standings with an 8-4 record.
As for Hart, the loss dropped the Hawks to sixth place in the standings with a 3-9 record and they fall out of contention for an automatic qualifier.
West Ranch 3, Valencia 0: The West Ranch Wildcats (8-17, 4-8) pulled off the upset on the final day of the season over the Valencia Vikings (22-8, 11-1).
Despite the win, the Wildcats ended the year in fifth place in the standings and are not in contention for an automatic qualifier.
The Vikings end the year with an 11-1 league record but finish the season as Foothill League champions and have momentum heading into the CIF playoffs.
