News release
The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society is holding a logo contest for the re-launch of its popular “Friday Night Flickers” program. This logo will be used on tickets, posters and other promotional items related to the program. Deadline for submissions is May 1, with the winning entry revealed on May 8.
Friday Night Flickers is a movie night featuring a variety of film offerings: classics, films with connecting themes, films or television episodes featuring very recognizable Santa Clarita Valley locations.
Screenwriter, former stage manager and video instructor Phil Scorza will be the host of the screenings held on the second Friday of every month, starting May 8 at Hart Hall in William S. Hart Park. Tapping the knowledge of film veterans and afficionados connected to the SCV Historical Society, little-known facts or behind-the-scenes details will be shared to enhance the viewing experience. Doors will open at 6:30 for the 7 p.m. showings; donations of $10 for adults (13 and up) and $5 for kids 3-12 include the screening, popcorn and water. Sodas and cookies will be available for purchase.
The following are the details for the logo competition:
- Artwork submitted must include four things: the words “Friday Night Flickers” and a film reel of some sort. Artists are encouraged to be creative and are free to add other elements, keeping in mind that it will be used mostly for publication, so a clean, simple design would be best.
- Artists are asked to be extremely careful not to use copyright material that is easily downloaded from the internet. All work must be original.
- Submissions can be paintings, drawings or color sketches, as well as digital art. They should be no larger than 8.5 x 11, scanned at full size, 300 dpi, and saved as a jpeg.
- For full color digital file creations, submit high resolution, 300 dpi that are at least 6 x 9 (or bigger), saved as a jpg.
- Professional designers submitting logos may submit vector files, saved as editable pdf, eps, or svg. Full color images should be 300 dpi and 6 x 9 or bigger, saved as jpeg or png files.
All entries should be submitted electronically to [email protected] no later than 5 p.m. May 1. Entries will be judged by a committee, with the winner announced at the premiere on May 8. Submission includes permission to use on all Friday Night Flickers promotional materials in perpetuity. The winning artist will get bragging rights and a $50 gift certificate.
