Comedy and the musical charm of 1940s cinema comes to Buzz Classic Movies on Saturday night with a streaming presentation of “Pot o’ Gold,” starring Jimmy Stewart.
The 1941 film has earned a 52% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes’ “Popcornmeter” based on more than 1,000 ratings.
“Jimmy, the owner of a failed music shop, goes to work with his uncle, the owner of a food factory,” says the Rotten Tomatoes summary of the movie. “Before he gets there, he befriends an Irish family who happens to be his uncle’s worst enemy because of their love for music and in-house band that constantly practices. Soon, Jimmy finds himself trying to help the band by getting them gigs and trying to reconcile the family with his uncle, an avid music-hater.”
“Yes, I found it formulaic for its time, but the singing, music and dancing are well worth watching, IMO,” read an audience member’s review posted on Rotten Tomatoes. “I’m 65, and I’ve been playing and singing on stage off and on since I was 14. This is a very talented cast.”
“Pot o’ Gold” streams at 8 p.m. Saturday on The Signal’s streaming channel, The Buzz, available at buzzscv.com as well as streaming platforms including Roku and Apple TV.
