News release

Travelling over the Tehachapi Mountains, Dewy and Droppy come across a water pumping plant that propels them toward the Santa Clarita Valley. The two water drops have come far since they began as snow but still have a way to go before reaching a spout.

“Dewy and Droppy: The Tale of Two Drops,” written and designed by SCV Water Agency Management Analyst Amy Seyerle, is a children’s story of two drops of water as they journey together from the sky to the tap but ultimately face different fates.

The book aims to educate children about how imported water, which makes up approximately half of the SCV’s water supply, gets to their homes, and emphasizes the importance of water conservation.

“Following Dewy and Droppy’s journey along the hundreds of miles they travel to get to us shows kids that water is a very precious resource,” Seyerle said in an SCV Water news release. “We want to engage kids in our outreach and teach them about water use efficiency from a young age, when learning is much easier and positive habits are being formed.”

“Dewy and Droppy” supports SCV Water’s recently adopted Water Use Efficiency Strategic Plan, providing both a means for community education and an entirely new method of outreach for the agency.

The content was created in collaboration with SCV Water’s Sustainability and Water Use Efficiency, Water Resources, Education, and Communications teams. In addition to the story, the book includes activities like a word search puzzle and educational materials on the Santa Clarita Valley’s water sources, as well as easy water-saving tips that children can share with their parents.

“Dewy and Droppy” is available in both English and Spanish. Physical copies can be obtained through SCV Water’s existing Education and school programs, as well as at select community events. A PDF of the book is also available to download at yourSCVwater.com/kids-corner.
