First responders airlifted a Saugus High School who was injured during a mental health crisis around 11:11 a.m. on Thursday, according to radio dispatch traffic.
The call went out as a 902A – known as a suicide attempt, according to radio dispatch traffic.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel requested a helicopter around 11:29 a.m., according to radio dispatch traffic.
A William S. Hart Union High School District official, speaking on background, said the student stabbed herself with a sharp object but was talking and alert.
The incident occurred in the school gym’s girls’ bathroom, according to Deputy Mariela Picard, spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The student was transported to an area trauma center, Picard said.
Radio dispatch traffic indicated she was wounded in the neck.
The district official added that a message would be sent out to parents shortly to make them aware of all the activity, emergency vehicles and staff on campus.
Debbie Dunn, director of communication and community engagement at the Hart district, was not readily available for comment at the time of this publication.
