A Lancaster felon is facing three grand-theft charges after a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detective traced several items stolen from local stores to an Antelope Valley residence, according to court records.
Shawn Gennarini, 44, faced preliminary arraignment Sept. 3 and pleaded no contest to charges that he stole pricey power tools from Home Depot and an electric guitar from Guitar Center, according to court records.
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received a report of thefts over the summer from both locations that included a Schecter Guitar Research C-1 Platinum FR S electric guitar, two Milwaukee M18 fuel impact wrenches and two Milwaukee M18 volt impact drills.
The report alleged that Gennarini walked into the Guitar Center on Pico Canyon Road on July 21 and walked out with an electric guitar valued at $1,150.
The report also indicated that a license plate was seen on a surveillance camera that linked Gennarini to the location.
A photographic lineup was created, and a witness positively identified Gennarini, according to the detective.
The first allegation happened in June, at the Home Depot on Newhall Ranch Road, the detective noted in his request to search addresses linked to the suspect.
At that location, the suspect left with tools that had a total value of nearly $1,200. The detective said video footage of the second incident helped him confirm the suspect’s identity.
The detective also noted that the suspect was wearing an ankle monitor tracking his location, which helped investigators track Gennarini to a pair of addresses that are next to each other in Lancaster.
When detectives served their search warrant Sept. 1, they reported finding two of the Milwaukee tools, a Milwaukee wet-dry vacuum and a Dewalt jump start kit.
Gennarini was arrested on the same day that the search warrant was executed.
The L.A. County District Attorney’s Office ultimately filed three counts of grand theft, with an additional allegation connected to seven prior felonies on Gennarini’s criminal record.
“He pleaded not guilty on (Sept. 3) and a preliminary hearing setting is scheduled for (Oct. 8) in Department G of the San Fernando Courthouse,” according to an email Thursday from Zara Lockshin, public information specialist with the DA’s Office.
Gennarini was released on his own recognizance that same day, with a proviso that he retain his ankle monitor. He also has to enroll in and complete three Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week or participate in an outpatient program. He was ordered to stay away from any Home Depot and Guitar Center establishments.
Those records also indicate he’s due back in court next month both at the Lancaster and San Fernando courthouses for separate pending criminal matters.
