The Sulphur Springs Union School District recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the district’s 10th school, to be built in the developing community of Skyline Ranch, with a commitment to providing exceptional learning for students and their families, said a news release from the district.
The special ceremony, held on Aug. 28, was attended by district leaders, governing board members, and elected officials including other community dignitaries to commemorate the construction of the new school.
Skyline Ranch Community School, which is anticipated to open in August 2028, will welcome approximately 700 students and will be located at 28301 Stratus St. It will serve students from kindergarten through sixth grade.
“We are not simply putting shovels in the ground — we are building a place filled with opportunity, possibility and promise for generations of students to come. At the heart of Skyline Ranch Community School is our vision: All students learning at high levels,” Sulphur Springs Superintendent Catherine Kawaguchi said in the news release.
The school will be the first within the developing community of Skyline Ranch, which is something Sulphur Springs governing board President Shelley Weinstein is most excited about.
“It’ll be a walkable school for many of the families that live there. It’ll just be a nice center for the community where the students can go to school locally and they don’t have to drive so far,” she said during a brief phone call with The Signal on Wednesday. “We have students ready to go there and we’ll welcome them in 2028.”
The campus will be 41,248 square feet and have five buildings altogether, “designed to provide innovative, welcoming and engaging environments where students can learn, grow, connect and thrive,” the release added.
The campus’ features to promote inclusivity include playgrounds designed to serve primary and upper-grade students, providing a safe space for play for students of all abilities, according to the release.
“I think they’re going to have a beautiful campus where learning is going to be fun. We have great staff throughout all of our schools, and we will have great staff there,” Weinstein said.
