A woman has died after a solo-vehicle crash on the Interstate 5 southbound near Lake Hughes Road on Saturday morning, according to a news release from the California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office.

Officers received the call around 6:23 a.m., the news release said. Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were also called to the scene.

Officers located an overturned vehicle within the right shoulder and a woman within the No. 1 lane. She was pronounced deceased by firefighters, the release said.

Initial reports indicate the driver was traveling southbound on I-5, near Lake Hughes Road and for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway, climbed the dirt embankment, and rolled over, the news release said.

The woman was ejected as a result of the crash. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this crash, the release said.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, according to the release.
