News release
Jeffrey Berman has launched his campaign for Santa Clarita City Council District 4, focusing on responsible growth, traffic and infrastructure, public safety and the quality of life of Santa Clarita residents, said a news release from his campaign.
“I’m not running because I think Santa Clarita is broken,” Berman said in the release. “I’m running because I think it’s worth getting right. We should protect what works, improve what needs attention and make sure the decisions we make today still make sense years from now.”
Berman has spent more than 25 years as a professional screenwriter, director and producer, according to the release. For the past 13 years, he worked in the ethics and compliance field, most recently as creative director and senior manager of video production for NAVEX, where he created training programs dealing with workplace ethics, accountability and compliance.
His television and film work includes writing for Disney, Universal, NBC, Hallmark and Lifetime, the release said. He was a co-writer of “Magic Beyond Words: The J.K. Rowling Story” and creator and host of the PBS interview series “The Write Environment.” He has also taught filmmaking through Inner-City Filmmakers and has a background in community service through Alpha Phi Omega, the national co-ed service fraternity, according to the release.
Berman said his campaign grew out of questions he began asking about decisions affecting Santa Clarita neighborhoods, particularly regarding traffic, development and infrastructure.
“Growth is going to happen,” Berman added. “The question is whether we plan for it responsibly. We need to look at traffic, roads, public safety, health care and other infrastructure before problems become more difficult and expensive to solve.”
Among the issues Berman has highlighted are traffic congestion and road safety, responsible development and infrastructure planning, public safety and emergency preparedness, access to healthcare and pediatric services, and transportation options for local students.
Berman said his approach to the council would be based on asking questions, listening to residents and examining how decisions are made.
“Listening isn’t leadership. It’s where leadership begins,” Berman said in the release. “Residents deserve to know why decisions are being made and that those decisions are based on what is in the best interest of the community.”
