Musical theater fans, singers and audience members of all ages are invited to take the stage or cheer from the crowd as Mission Opera and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church present Broadway-oke, a collaborative Broadway-themed karaoke night.

Scheduled 7-9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, this community event replaces recorded backing tracks with a live pianist, offering participants the rare opportunity to sing their favorite showtunes with real piano accompaniment, said a news release from the organizers.

Hosted in the Parish Hall at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Valencia, participants can bring their own sheet music scores or choose from an on-site binder of musical theater classics. The non-ticketed event is open to the public, welcoming seasoned vocalists and enthusiastic beginners, as well as audience members who simply want to enjoy an evening of live theatrical music, the release said.

“Broadway-oke gives our community a chance to experience the magic of singing Broadway classics with a live accompanist in a fun, pressure-free environment,” Joshua Wentz, artistic director of Mission Opera, said in the release. “Whether you’re stepping up to the mic or enjoying a drink in the audience, it’s a wonderful night of music that directly supports local arts and music programming.”

All proceeds will be donated to St. Stephen’s Music Ministries on behalf of Mission Opera, their community nonprofit partner.

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church is located at 24901 Orchard Village Road, Valencia. Non-ticketed event; a suggested donation of $5 or more will be accepted at the door. Song and refreshment tickets: $5 per ticket, redeemable for one song to sing, glass of wine, concession, or other refreshment. Payment methods accepted: Cash, card, Venmo, PayPal or Zelle.
