A slice of 1947 life comes to Buzz Classic Movies on Saturday night with a streaming presentation of the comedy, “Life with Father,” starring William Powell, Irene Dunne and Elizabeth Taylor.
The 1947 classic has earned a 92% critics score based on 13 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 77% audience score on the Rotten Tomatoes Popcornmeter based on more than 1,000 ratings.
“In late 19th-century New York City, stockbroker Clarence Day (William Powell) strives to maintain order in his bustling household,” says the Rotten Tomatoes summary of the movie. “Despite his attempts to be the chief authority over his four sons, his wife, Vinnie (Irene Dunne), is the one who truly keeps order in their home, much to Clarence’s chagrin. To gain more respect, Clarence reluctantly considers making changes that will benefit everyone, including his own baptism. This slice-of-life comedy was based on a popular Broadway play.”
“Irene Dunne and William Powell have captured to a considerable extent the charm of the play by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse,” read a staff review in Variety.
“Life with Father” streams at 8 p.m. Saturday on The Signal’s streaming channel, The Buzz, available at buzzscv.com as well as streaming platforms including Roku and Apple TV.
