Firefighters report 2-acre blaze near freeway

The Los Angeles County Fire Department reported that a 2-acre fire broke out near Interstate 5 and Lake Hughes Road, north of Santa Clarita, on Tuesday. 

Firefighters were dispatched to the incident at 11:45 a.m. and reported being on the scene at 11:59 a.m. It was initially reported east of the southbound lanes on I-5, near Castaic, according to Howard Tieu, a spokesman for the L.A. County Fire Department. The incident was referred to as the Baker Fire. 

The initial report indicated that no structures were threatened by the brush fire, which was reportedly in medium fuel with light winds. 

Forward progress was declared stopped at 12:07 p.m., according to the Watch Duty app. 

Tieu indicated that, initially, helicopters were assisting in the response, but firefighters on the ground reported that no additional air resources were necessary, at around 12:15 p.m.  

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. 

The cause of the fire was not immediately available.
