A man was detained after a call went out about a kidnapping on Challenger Way and Avenue J in Lancaster with the suspect and the victim fleeing the scene in a 2011 silver Kia Forte on Saturday afternoon.

A deputy on the scene advised that the man was wanted on suspicion of kidnapping, domestic violence and elder abuse.

After he fled, deputies were live-pinging the victim’s phone and it showed they were southbound on State Route14 thru Agua Dulce. Deputies requested that Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies get into position and to notify California Highway Patrol Newhall-area officers.

Palmdale Sheriff’s Station deputies were behind the suspect’s vehicle on southbound SR-14 at Sand Canyon Road. An airship was enroute and requested to not want the vehicle “lit up” until they were overhead.

A woman, who was the kidnapping victim, was on the phone with a caller and was yelling at the suspect to stop the vehicle. The suspect refused to stop.

On southbound SR-14 near Newhall Avenue, an airship was overhead.

The vehicle was now in pursuit on southbound Interstate 5 through Roxford Street at 72 mph. They then reached southbound Interstate 5 through Polk Street.

The vehicle stopped on the right shoulder of the freeway before a felony stop was in progress on the southbound I-5 at Interstate 405.

The woman exited the suspect’s vehicle, and the man was being detained at 3:56 p.m., with deputies clearing the vehicle.

Sgt. Troy Bowser with the Lancaster station confirmed the call did go out, but could not confirm any details due to the report not being available at the time of this publication.

Bowser did confirm that SCV Sheriff’s Station and Palmdale Sheriff’s Station assisted in the arrest.
