L.A. County Fire Department and city of Santa Clarita personnel were called to the intersection of McBean and Magic Mountain parkways shortly after noon on Friday when a large tree fell onto the roadway amid the high winds that hit the Santa Clarita Valley.
Initial radio dispatch reports indicated the tree had landed on two vehicles, blocking four lanes, and that a person was possibly trapped, but upon arrival at the scene firefighters confirmed that no one was trapped.
At the scene, at least one vehicle, a white SUV, could be seen pinned beneath the downed tree as the L.A. County Fire Department, including camp crew personnel, worked to chop up the tree and remove it from the roadway.
The northbound side of McBean Parkway was closed, adjacent to the parking lot for the Target shopping center.
Additional reinforcements, including a bulldozer, could be seen on the scene.
At the time of this story’s original publication, a partial opening of McBean Parkway was slated after an hour of cleanup, with a full opening expected within two hours.
The incident was declared wrapped up by 2:45 p.m., according to SCV Sheriff’s Station officials.
