A man involved in a crash that may have been related to street racing on Railroad Avenue early Saturday morning has been identified, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner officials.

David Tchakerian, 47, of Canyon Country, was the man who died in the fatal traffic collision, according to the L.A. County Medical Examiner.

The solo vehicle crash was reported at approximately 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Oak Ridge Drive, according to Shirley Miller, a spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station during initial reports on Saturday.

According to witnesses on the scene, a black vehicle may have lost control after it was possibly racing with another vehicle and collided with a tree, Miller stated on Saturday.

The driver who died was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The other vehicle involved in the alleged street racing was not at the scene of the crash, Miller stated on Saturday.

When first responders were working to contain the scene, a deputy sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital after a deputy in a patrol unit struck him.

The deputy injured was stopping traffic when another responding unit, who was traveling at a low rate of speed, struck him, Miller said on Saturday.

Signal Staff Writer Katherine Quezada contributed to this report.
