Deputies: Initial report of person with gun found to be a ‘swatting’ incident
Johnathan Porter, the rapper known as “Blueface,” was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a peace officer after he was with someone who was reported to be carrying a weapon at the Yardhouse restaurant on Monday evening — but sheriff’s deputies later concluded the initial report was a “swatting” incident.
Porter, who is listed as a Canyon Country resident in the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department booking logs, was seen in a video on social media wearing a Mr. Incredible costume being detained by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies.
Deputies responded to the call around 7:43 p.m. regarding a call of a man wearing a costume who allegedly brandished a firearm at another person, according to a statement from Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the station.
During the investigation, one of the detained individuals, another man wearing a costume, repeatedly refused to comply with deputies’ directions, disregarded their commands, and stated that he would not cooperate. His actions significantly delayed deputies’ ability to secure the location and investigate the reported firearm incident, Miller’s statement said.
Through their field investigation, deputies determined that the initial report was a swatting incident, the statement said.
“Swatting” is a term used to describe a false report to law enforcement agencies that unnecessarily draws an emergency services response.
Porter was arrested on misdemeanor charges of resisting, delaying, or obstructing a peace officer in the performance of their duties, according to Miller’s statement.
