News release

The Saugus Z Club, a newly reactivated service organization at Saugus High School, has officially been chartered by Zonta International, “marking an exciting new chapter of leadership, volunteerism, service, and international fellowship for students at Saugus High School,” said a news release from Zonta.

The Saugus Z Club was officially chartered on Sept. 16, with 36 charter members committed to making a positive impact on their campus, in their community, and beyond, the release said.

The charter was formally presented by Cherise Moore, trustee for the William S. Hart Union High School District and current president of the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley, at the Z Club’s Installation Ceremony on Oct. 8.

“The Saugus Z Club has hit the ground running!” Moore said in the release. “Before they were even inducted, the students had already shared a list of a dozen proposed club projects they want to pursue to help build a better world for women and girls on their campus and throughout the community. Their energy, creativity and commitment to service are inspiring. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this incredible group of young leaders as they bring their ideas to life and make a meaningful impact in the year ahead.”

Z Club is a youth organization of Zonta International, a global service organization of professionals dedicated to advancing opportunities and creating a better world for women and girls through service and advocacy. Zonta International includes more than 25,000 members in nearly 1,100 clubs across 64 countries.

Z Club members are encouraged to put leadership into action through meaningful service projects benefiting their school, community, country, and the world. Members also promote scholastic achievement, develop leadership skills, and work to strengthen international understanding through service.

The Saugus club’s advisor is Marissa Hyke. This is the fifth Z Club in the William S. Hart Union High School District, joining Canyon Z Club, Castaic Z Club, Golden Valley Z Club, and West Ranch Z Club. The organization also sponsors a Golden Z Club, a leadership-development organization serving college-level students at College of the Canyons. The clubs are open to students who support the objectives of service, fellowship and international understanding.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Saugus Z Club to the Z Club family,” Julie Johnson, Z Club and Golden Z Club Committee Chair for the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley, said in the release. “I look forward to working closely with Ms. Hyke as she guides these enthusiastic young leaders. We are also excited to see Saugus students collaborate with other Z Clubs, share ideas, and work together on meaningful service projects that make a difference at their school and throughout the community.”
