CBS Film Series presents Marianne & Leonard Words of Love
February 16 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Love is in the air in February.
Marianne Ihlen and Leonard Cohen met on the Greek island of Hydra and spent much of the 1960s intertwined in a love affair. Leonard, a struggling and unknown fiction writer, and Marianne a single mother with a young son, became part of an idyllic 1960’s bohemian community of expat artists, writers, and musicians. With their affair as a backdrop, the film tells the story of Cohen’s career and the unlikely rise of a poet who became a successful musician but it doesn’t shy away
from his depression, drug abuse, or his reputation as a notorious ladies man. It was a time that left a lasting imprint on both Marianne and Leonard. From veteran director Nick Broomfield, who previously examined the relationships between Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love in “Kurt & Courtney” and the Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur in “Biggie and Tupac.”
