Mission Opera’s ‘Cold Sassy Tree’

Santa Clarita’s opera company, Mission Opera, opens its seventh season with “Cold Sassy Tree” by Carlisle Floyd, an American opera in English. Based on the 1989 historical American novel by Olive Ann Burns, “Cold Sassy Tree” portrays life in the rural south in the fictional town of Cold Sassy in 1906. “Cold Sassy Tree” features a multimedia design on the 48-foot LED screen, combining traditional theater with contemporary video design and virtual settings. The entire performance will last 2 hours and 45 minutes, which includes a 15-minute intermission. Tickets ($30 general, $25 students and seniors) available at www.missionopera.com.
